PLAYING RULES / PRACTICES

REGISTRATION

All players names must be registered with the Games Secretary at the commencement of the season.

ONLY REGISTERED PLAYERS MAY PLAY

In an emergency, players may be registered on the alley, subject to the agreement of BOTH captains. No more that TWO such registrations may be made on one night, and the names of such registered players must be recorded on the result card, and initialled by BOTH captains.

Once a player has played for an “A” team they may not play for a “B” team or vice versa - or for any other club.

STARTING THE GAME

Games will commence at 8 p.m. unless agreed by the two captains. The score will be recorded in an official score book, (available from the Treasurer). A captain and vice-captain should be indicated on the scoreboard. They will be responsible for watching the line during the oppositions throws. For the benefit of new teams, any ball which is delivered must touch the alley before or on the foul-line. If it is pitched over the foul-line, it will be deemed a NO-BALL, only if called by the linesman, and any skittles resulting from that NO-BALL will not count in the score.

If any team turns up with players short, the game should be started with minimum delay, and if the missing player(s) turn up before the team’s first lane is completed, they will be allowed to play.

If a team fails to turn up for a fixture, the opposition will be awarded the points, and the offending team fined. (See also cancellations).

PLAYING PRACTICES

Any skittles knocked down with a ‘no-ball’ or a ball which has hit the side board, will be left down and not counted in that throw. In the event of a ‘stick-up’ which included a ‘no-ball’ the throw will be deemed to be finished and only the legitimate skittles will be counted.

If a skittle is moved but does not fall over, it must remain in it’s new position for the remainder of that throw - then replaced on it’s spot. If a skittle is knocked over but stands up again within the skittles spots, it does not count and must remain in it’s new position for the remainder of the throw. If it stands up outside the area of the skittles spots it is considered knocked down and must be removed.

A ball which strikes skittles then bounces onto the angle boards is still ‘alive’ and may still knock down more skittles, but a ball which has left the alley is ‘dead’. If a ball bounces back off the back or side walls and takes skittles, these must be stood up again.

REPORTING RESULTS

An official scorecard must be sent to the Games Secretary by the home team within 72 hours of the game. It must include the name of the teams, the individual names of the players, the number of the division or the cup competition to which it refers, the total score for each team, the date played, and both captains signatures.

CANCELLED MATCHES

LEAGUE fixtures that need to be cancelled must be mutually agreed, and the rearranged date must be before the fixture date and the Games Secretary informed.

Cancelled CUP MATCHES must be played BEFORE the original date.

Captains are reminded to inform the Games Secretary of cancelled cup matches and the proposed new date. Failure to do so will result in fines for late results.

A failure to agree a date for re-scheduling a cancelled cup match must be referred to the Games Secretary, and the committee will decide when the game be played, or decide how the outcome will be allocated, and whether a fine will be imposed.
